In consultation with our Builder (IQC), our Project Manager (COHA), the State Government, Brisbane City Council and our insurance broker, we are taking immediate steps to minimise the potential impact that Cyclone Alfred will have on both our Organisation and the stadium redevelopment project. This action includes removing the main distribution board from the Auchenflower Stadium, as this is a critical piece of infrastructure, that if damaged, would have a significant impact on the delivery of basketball operations i.e. we would not be able to operate for potentially a 6-10 week period. The removal of the distribution board means that, effective immediately, Auchenflower Stadium will be closed, and all programs and competitions (that are delivered at the Auchenflower Stadium) are suspended until further notice. It is anticipated that the venue will reopen next week, depending on the impact of cyclone Alfred.
We are also in constant close contact with our partner venues, we anticipate that all the venues that we partner with will be closed late this week and over the weekend. As such, we have made the determination to suspend all programs and competitions delivered at external venues effective immediately until Monday the 10th. From March 10th, Programs will likely resume. This will only happen once we have received formal advice from that venue that it is safe to do so. This will be communicated to the impacted individuals by the relevant Program Manager.
I would like to thank the Member Clubs and the membership for their understanding and support as we navigate this challenging situation. Please stay safe in the coming days.
Hamish Cain
General Manager
